When I saw the press release announcing Wet’s new dessert flavored lubes, I really wanted to try them. I like flavored lubes, but with a caveat. As lubes, they are generally not the best on the market. Since they are sweet, they have a tendency to be a little sticky. Yes, they do work as lubes, but as they dry, they can become sticky. They might not be the best option for sex toys, and they might not be the best choice for intercourse if you have serious dryness issues. For oral sex, though, they are terrific, as they add extra lubrication that is slippier than saliva, and make oral sex even tastier. Since their real only purpose is for oral and are wasted if that is not how you use them, then they do the job they are supposed to do, as long as they meet the tasty criteria. I would not suggest them for masturbation, either, unless you are a young Ron Jeremy.

There are several flavors with gloriously delicious names- Frosted Cupcake, Salted Caramel, Whipped Cream, Bananas Foster, or Crème Brulee. They also have warming versions with even better names – Oven Baked Apple Pie À La Mode, Baked Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookie, Homemade Cinnamon Roll, Slow-Baked Hazelnut Soufflè, and Delicious Donuts. We tested all of them except the donuts.

Over many years of testing flavored lubes, we have found not unexpectedly that people differ quite wildly in what they like. We strongly suggest finding a local sex shop that has samplers. We taste test them with many people to try and get a consensus. We did rather extensive taste testing and sex testing with these lubes. Here are the results.

In the non-warming, the winner was the Salted Caramel. It did well with those who said they were not that into sweets. In the warming category and the overall winner was the Baked Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookie. Interestingly, caramel is a flavor note in both (cookies have a caramelized taste from the sugar caramelizing). I guess it is not surprising that having both chocolate and caramel flavors would be a big winner.

About warming lubes- you either like them or you don’t. However, you have to blow on these gently to get that warming sensation, so you can use them just like a non-warming lube and not notice much difference. Yes, they claim that it is motion activated, but I tried rubbing rather vigorously and the effect was quite subtle. I did not really notice it during intercourse. When you do blow on them, the warming sensation is very noticeable, so you might want to try them and give a literal blow job.

The one tester we had who did not like any of them turned out to be a supertaster. These are people with an increased number of fungiform papillae, which lets them taste things more intensely. Supertasters tend to dislike a lot more foods than the average person, and things that are sweet often taste too sweet to them, plus they detect other elements most of us do not notice. They tend to dislike most sweets, and coffee, and alcohol, among other things, which is why I am glad I am not one. I think we can safely say that almost all flavored lubes are not going to be great choices for supertasters.

The big surprise for me was whipped cream. You don’t actually want real whipped cream anywhere near a vagina (sugar + vagina = yeast infection), but the Wet Whipped Cream (sugar free like all the others), while less fluffy, rated very well with our testers.

One tester described them as being like the syrups used on fancy coffees. I did agree with some that the Cinnamon Roll seemed a little too sweet. Overall, they pretty much lived up to their names.

While I do not personally test a lot of adult products, limited largely by not having a vagina, this is one I could. I did my testing quite diligently, trying them on a number of different vaginas. They tasted the same no matter who I used them on. I am probably also in the chocolate chip cookie camp, but the bottom line is that flavor ramps up another of the senses, and makes oral sex more fun. I may have been projecting, but perhaps the oral sex I was given was a little more enthusiastic, although the women I tend to have sex with are enthusiastic anyway.

They are easy to clean up, non-staining, and have no unpleasant after-taste (unless you are a supertaster).

I like flavored lubes. If you do as well, these are well worth a try. The bottle designs alone are enough to get you in the mood for an oral treat. I spoke with a Wet rep about a year and a half ago about their lack of a flavored lube that could compete with the excellent System Jo Gelatto Lubes (see our review). He told me they were working on it. I believe that work has paid off.
