The Bat Room

batroom

Small rubber bats are hung from fish-line. A bat border made by Scene Setters frames the top of the wall. A large rubber bat hangs from the ceiling.

Of course, it is always nice to have an additional scare when they close the door.

One of the variations in the Bat themed bathrooms was our Batgirl room. This was inspired by Kris Booth’s very elaborate Batgirl costume from the previous year. Batgirl comics were framed and hung on the wall, along with some erotic Batgirl art found through an Internet search.

We also had on display her cowl. We went to professional makeup and special effects designer Steve Neil who custom made one for us. His very first job in Hollywood was designing Spock’s ears for Star Trek- the Motion Picture. He has done tons of movies since.

The first step was making a cast of her head. This required completely covering her head in goo, more commonly referred to as alginate. Once it starts to set, they put a plaster bandage exterior around it.

The next step is to use that casting to make a mold. The cast is removed from her head in two pieces, the interior cleaned up a bit, and then the two pieces put back together again. A casting material is poured inside to create the head lifecast.

Kris’ finished lifecast is to the left. Steve then sculpted her cowl on the lifecast to create a perfect fit. He made a mold of the cowl, which was then made out of a silicone material.

Cowl

The cowl does not fit the mannequin head very well, but it fit Kris’ head perfectly.
