Adam and Eve Discriminating?

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit accusing sex toy and adult film seller and producer Adam & Eve of sex discrimination. This is because they hire female sales people in their stores to make their largely female customers more comfortable. Most female friendly adult stores do this. This is a legitimate reason. Why is the EEOC doing this?

A quick look at the new head of the EEOC might offer some insight. She is Janet Dhillon. She has spent her life as a corporate attorney, and has no experience enforcing anti-discrimination laws, either in the public or private sector. In this nepotism friendly no experience required administration, she got the job because her husband works in the Trump administration as a lawyer who has sought to block Congressional oversight over federal agencies.

The EEOC alleges that the Raleigh, N.C.-based company violated federal law when it refused to hire Christopher Kilby and other male applicants for certain positions, based on their sex. They targeted their Raleigh store, so this whole thing seems like a setup. What’s next. going after strip clubs because they only hire female dancers? That makes about as much sense.

Adam and Eve has been under assault by the government. A three member panel (two Trump and one Bush II apointee) of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeal’s upheld the denial of a Certificate of Occupancy to Stephen Norman to open an Adam & Eve franchise store in Jonesboro, Arkansas, even though the store didn’t violate any state or local ordinance. The city also committed many legally shady acts, but the court did not care.

Political Porn

Sure, politicians have been politicizing porn since forever, but never before have we seen an administration claim something political but non-sexual was actually porn. You may have heard of liberal advocacy group Public Citizen, which has been around for almost 50 years. They do not have anything to do with sex. There have never been “Unsafe at Any Speed” porn videos. I am pretty sure we have never even seen founder Ralph Nader naked. What they have done is file ethics complaints against top Trump associates and cronies, and published a major report on how businesses, religious groups and even charities spend money at Trump owned businesses to curry favor with him. In another of the Administration’s endless violation of norms and the law, the Daily Beast reports that the Department of Education, has designated the Public Citizen web site as a an adult site for purposes of its Internet filters. All public advocacy sites were designated as adult content. They have been battling the Education Department all year, so it was clearly not a mistake, so they sued. This month the Education Department finally backed off, but it is unknown how many other departments are blocking liberal advocacy sites as adult content.

No Peeping in Vegas

Under the law, drag queens would be prohibited from wearing any “attire, costume or clothing so as to expose to view any portion of the female breast.” Lacking female breasts, I am not sure how this applies. How much of a female do you need to be? It is all part of the nationwide movement by anti-gay conservatives to shut down Drag Queen Story Time.
