Pirate Bay

pirate-bay

The theme is a pirate funeral with lots of potted tropical plants. Tiki Torches amidst the plants add to the tropical setting. The hot springs soak (actually a hot tub) had to be moved into the Zombie Bar because of sight-line problems this year).

rum

The boxes of Rum are actually the bottom of two planters on end side by side, with the word rum painted on them using a crudely made stencil. They are normally filled with potted plants, but easily set up for Halloween.

An old chest with a hole in the bottom and with a green light in it sits on a table. The skull and crossbones was made from a Halloween bag of bones. The two long bones were notched so that they could fit together, and the back of the skull was cut off and notched so that it would fit over the bones. The whole thing was wired together.

The pirate is a stuffed pirate outfit with molded legs and feet. The head is a mold complete with hair and glass eyes. The coffin itself is actually a prop from Jeff Booth’s performing years- part of his original escape from a steel-lined air-tight coffin. The seven foot tall skeleton pirate was originally a grim reaper. We named him The Dead Pirate Roberts, and literally no one got the Princess Bride reference. Some things you do just for yourself.

table

The pirate map is an old map found on the Internet, printed out on four sheets and taped together, and then the edges were cut and distressed.

booty2015

A smaller box of pirate booty was made from junk jewelry and gold doubloons and fake gems from the Halloween store. The bags were filled with cardboard with just enough coins on top to make them look full.
