While the name be a little off-putting to some, it does make sense, as it does look a lot like cum. For some this will be a turn-on. And believe it or not, it is a much better lube than the novelty name might suggest. I can’t imagine a worse name for a lube than Spunk. Okay, yes, I just thought of several worse names. For example, Master Series Semen Scented Jizz Water. Yes, it is really the name of a lube.

Once you get past the name, though, it does have some things going for it. It is a hybrid lube- part water based part silicon based, and all the hybrids I have seen so far have a creamy, okay, I’ll say it, spunk like appearance. Hybrid lubes provide the long lasting qualities of a silicone lube, clean up easier than a silicone lube, and don’t get tacky like many water based lubes.

They are not perfect though. None of the hybrids we have evaluated offer a best of both worlds. They last longer than water-based, but not as long as silicone (nor do they work in water as well as silicone). Water-based lubes tend to get sticky as the water evaporates out of them. This is not such a deal when used vaginally, but can be an issue for handjobs and with sex toys where there is more exposure to air. Hybrids, in general, stay wet a little longer, although not as long as silicone. Hybrids are easier to clean up after than silicone.

They claim that it is safe on silicone, latex, glass, metal, rubber, neoprene, and fabric. In our testing, while it is less likely to stain fabric than silicone, it is still a possibility. I wouldn’t use it on the couch.

The good news is that they reformulated it so that it no longer uses glycerine. It does have a small amount of methylparaben as a preservative.

The 8 oz. version comes in a pump bottle. I am a big fan of the pump. They make it easier and cleaner to get additional lube. You don’t have to worry about opening a cap or leaving it open and the bottle spilling.

I like having a large lube container. The swing club I was involved with literally bought lube in 55 gallon drums. You can too, from Passion Lubes, and it will set you back about $1500, but it is very difficult to put on the nightstand. I did have a 32 oz. bottle of lube on my nightstand with a pump, which I really liked, but Spunk goes bigger- they have a half-gallon bottle with a pump, and even a full gallon with a pump.

For those who might not want their lube to look like cum, they also offer colored versions in orange and pink. You can also get a version that is straight silicone, not a hybrid.

Much to my surprise, this actually is one of the better hybrids. It has quite the following, and rates well with testers. Don’t let the name automatically turn you off. It is worth trying one of the sampler sizes and see if it works for you.
