I am a huge fan of Mister Rogers. Everyone who knew him describes him as being the real deal- an incredibly kind person who did so much for children. A biography published in 2018 (The Good Neighbor: The Life and Work of Fred Rogers<\/em>, by Maxwell King). Here is the story from that book that is just now for some reason getting a lot of attention:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rogers himself was often labeled \u201ca sissy,\u201d or gay, in a \nderogatory sense. But as his longtime associate Eliot Daley put it: \n\u201cFred is one of the strongest people I have ever met in my life. So if \nthey are saying he\u2019s gay because \u2026 that\u2019s a surrogate for saying he\u2019s \nweak, that\u2019s not right, because he\u2019s incredibly strong.\u201d He adds: \u201cHe \nwasn\u2019t a very masculine person, he wasn\u2019t a very feminine person; he was\n androgynous.\u201d<\/p>

In a 1975 interview for the New York Times, Rogers noted drolly: \u201cI\u2019m\n not John Wayne, so consequently, for some people I\u2019m not the model for \nthe man in the house.\u201d<\/p>

In conversation with one of his friends, the openly gay Dr. William \nHirsch, Fred Rogers himself concluded that if sexuality was measured on a\n scale of one to ten: \u201cWell, you know, I must be right smack in the \nmiddle. Because I have found women attractive, and I have found men \nattractive.\u201d<\/p>

Michael Horton, the voice of Neighborhood puppets and a close \nRogers-family friend for decades, notes that he is always asked first \nabout Fred Rogers: \u201cWas he really like that?\u201d<\/p>

\u201cI say, \u2018Do you mean, was he a nice, kind person off-camera, the way he comes across?\u2019 The answer is always yes.\u201d<\/p>

Then the follow up: \u201cPeople don\u2019t say to me, \u2018Was he gay,\u2019 but \u2018Isn\u2019t\n he gay?\u2019 To me, that\u2019s very revealing in a way, because of how \npresumptuous people can be. In other words, \u2018Isn\u2019t he gay?\u2019 sort of \nleads you to think that maybe Fred had a double life or something.\u201d<\/p>

There was no double life. And without exception, close associates \nconcluded that Fred Rogers was absolutely faithful to his marriage vows.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Having a bisexual wife and knowing many bisexual people, they seem as a group to represent the best of humanity. I mean, literally, they love everybody (or have that capacity). I find the notion of Mister Rogers being bisexual to be rather heartwarming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lance Hart was interviewed and did a photo shoot for GQ Magazine. Lance is a prolific adult actor, director and producer.
